Neelkanth : Neelkanth Mahadev temple is famous temple of Lord Shiva and situated at height of 1330 mtrs and located 32 kms from Rishikesh , Neelkanth Mahadev temple is located near Nar Narayan Mountains , Temple is located at beautiful thick forests, valley of Bramhakoot & Vishnukoot covers temple and Neelkanth temple is situated at confluence of rivers Pankaja & Madhumati., It is said that Mahadev Shanker ji had consumed poison at this place after Samudra Manthan.

Vindhya Vasini Temple is ancient temple of Mata Vindhya Vasini , Located on hill top and confluence of rivers in dense forests of Rajaji National Park , It is said that freedom fighters used to hide near Vindhya Vasini temple during British Period., Vindhyavasini temple is located only 2 kms from Junglee Resort , easy trek or drive is possible to reach Vindhya Vasini Temple .

One can enjoy beautiful views of rivers , mountains and forest of Rajaji National Park from temple which is located on top of hill and surrounded by rivers by 3 sides. Beauty of paddy fields is awesome while enjoying lovely views from temple of Mata Vindhyavasini.

Chilla Hydro Power : Chilla Hydro Power Plant is made on Run of River scheme on Ganga Canal in between of Rishikesh & Haridwar , There are 4 units for power generation and each unit generates 36 MW , each unit generates power by fall of 30 mtrs of water, Ganga Canal carries water up to 14 kms and after power generation at Chila Hydro Power plant water is again discharged in Ganges by 2.1 kms long canal. , Junglee resort is located only 15 kms from Chila Hydro Power Plant and one has to trvel along with Gnag canal to reach Junglee Resort Rajaji National Park.

Monitor Lizard

Monitor Lizard : Monitor lizard ( Varanus bengalnsis ) , Its length is approx 75 cms, and size of tail is 90 cms, Monitor Lizards prey are small birds, eggs & fishes.

Monitor Lizards live in dense forests of Rajaji National Park and prefer to stay in trees, , near villages and cultivated areas, Monitor Lizard can live up to 20 years and known as endangered species, Monitor Lizard occupies vacant burrows or hollow trees , known as very good climber and swimmer.

In ancient times warriors used to tie a rope in Monitor Lizard and throw it on forts and soldiers were climbing on forts by help of rope tied with Monitor Lizard , as grip of Monitor Lizard is very strong. komodo dragon of Indonesia is biggest Monitor Lizard in world and has size about 4 meters.

Monitor Lizards are carnivores animals and are endangered species because of own skin , Skin of Monitor Lizard gets high value in international market and poachers try to hunt Monitor Lizard because of it , There are different kind of Monitor Lizard including Common , Water Monitor Lizard etc.

The skin of Monitor Lizard is used in making of musical Instrument named as Kanjira , many people think Monitor Lizard has medicinal values too.

Mangoos

Mangoos : Common Mongoose ( Herpertes edwards ) Mongoose is characterized by distributed features like long body short limbs a long bushy tail and bright beady eyes , They have small ears forming a small semicircle close to the head it has also got manifold ears opening a natural protection against duster .

Mongoose in India are frequently exhibited by wondering snake charmers and are familiar to most of the people in India ,The Mongoose eats vegetable food and have a preference for meat having predator instincts , which turns them into a good hunter this is shown in the structure of the teeth of Mongoose, which are compressed blades for cutting meet their manner of hunting is distinctive on account of their predatory instinct mongoose are good hunter and preys on frogs , crabs, lizard , mice, snakes etc.

While invariably roots and berries also are part of their meal although prefers meet . Cats and civets hunt by teeth and they take their prey by crafty approach for by pouncing up on it .Mongoose in Rajaji National Park

The method of the mongoose is a direct open and had long attack its prey and mongoose goes for it but if the distance is too far before pouncing , It stalk for a sufficiently near approach or follow its query by sent.

A mongoose may trail it to its burrow and on entering digs its victim out . Its pointed head , small ears , lissome body and short legs are well suited to give the mongoose easy entry, Mongoose are capable of killing of the deadly cobra , while excited it’s hair bristles and give it a larger appearance. On excitement and blood thirsty ness they kill a bigger than their requirement .

For single genius Herpestis has spread from Africa to Spain and the southern part of Asia . Six species of the genus inhabit of southern Asia , All of them are found in India .
Generally Mongoose have length of 70 Cms, and body weight approx 1.5 Kgs, There food menu is termites, frogs, eggs, mice, fruits, roots, scrubs etc. Life span of Mongoose is 3- 5 years

Monkey

Monkey : Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta ) are least concern by IUCN and most famous monkeys of Rajaji National Park & India , Rhesus Macaque has total body weight of 7 to 10 kgs and maximum height 50 centimeters , There food is plants and insects, Rhesus macaque live in jungle and open woodland .

Total lifespan of Rhesus Macaque is 12 to 15 years , These monkeys live in highly organized groups and almost a hundred individuals coexist under the leadership of a dominant male , very large groups are divided in smaller subgroups under leadership of a male.

There is a clear cut social order within the group female monkeys are quite tolerant of each other with grooming as a major activity. There are plenty of monkeys found in India & Uttarakhand but Rhesus monkeys are the best known monkey ( Red Face Monkey ) in india and lives in a variety of habitate from mountains to mangroove forests .

Bodybuilt of the Rhesus monkey is quite thick and its crown radiate backword from the forehead and with neat centre parting from the bonnet macaque. The fur of these monkeys is olive brown with orange red fur on its loins and rump .

Rhesus macaque monkeys are the common monkeys of northern India and found every where in towns and villages , cities , These monkeys are quite habitual of human presence and never bothered about it , It is a delight to watch to these monkeys as it has characteristic cheek pouch to store food in it , It can not consume food immediately .
Rhesus macaque monkey lives in diversity as in deserts , forests, mangroves and are able to make home on trees ,grounds or on rooftops .

Wild Boar

Wild Boar : Indian Wild Boar ( Susa scrofa cristatus ) is similar to domestic pig and don’t have thick under wool like Wild Boar found in western countries, Indian Wild Boar has prominent bands on mouth & snout and also have long manes, It is high skulled animal.

Wild Boar is known as ancestor of domestic pigs, There is a big difference in Wild Boar and Domestic Pig that is Wild Pig have 70 % body weight at posterior part of body and Wild Boars have most of the muscles near shoulders.

Wild Boar have well developed canine teeth in males, and are omnivores animals they can eat roots , bulbs and tubers of plants , seeds , nuts and berries, Leaves , Barks of trees, and even fish , earthworms, insects, eggs, snakes, frogs, lizards and even garbage & meat of dead animals. Wild Boar can run at speed of 40 Kms per hour and can jump up to 5 feet, Wild Boar have very good smelling power and hearing power but his eye sight is poor and is unable to see beyond 15 meters properly.

Adult Make Wild Boar is solitary animal and leave sounder at age of 15 month , females live with sounder or make their new sounder near by , Sounder is female dominated, Breeding period is from November to January and a single male can mate with 6-10 sows.Generally 6-10 piglets are born after 4 month gestation period.

Wild Boar can live up to age of 14 years in wild but in captivity about 20 years. Tigers and Leopards are main predators in India , Leopard is threat for younger Wild Boars and females and Tiger Generally Kills fully grown male Wild Boars , A Single Tiger can Kill 30-40 Wild Boars every year.

Jungle Cat

Jungle Cat : Jungle cats ( Felis chaus ) are found in large numbers at Rajaji National Park, jungle cats are solitary animal and they love to stay in burrows made by other animals .

jungle cats prefer to stay inside of dense vegetations , Generally Jungle Cats are inactive at night but one can see them moving at day time also, Jungle cats enjoy resting in sunlight , Generally Jungle Cat is territorial animal.

Jungle Cat make territories by spraying urine and by scent marking , Jungle Cat is expert in climbing trees & they hunt by hearing sound and sense of smell .

Jungle Cat can move from one side to another side while running , Jungle Cat’s preys are Birds, Hares, Reptiles, Squirrels , Rodents etc. Jungle Cats can stay near human settlements & feed on ducks and chickens.

Jungle Cat can run up to 32 kilometers per hour, Threat to Jungle Cat are Jackal ,Sloth Bear , Asiatic Bear ,Crocodiles , Leopards , Tigers .
Generally when Jungle Cat want to attack someone it prefers to jump on the attacker but if Jungle Cat finds larger animal threat , they prefer to retreat , Generally Jungle cats are no threat for humans and only they can injure humen by claws because JUngle Cat is medium sized cat .

Jungle Cat is declared least concern by IUCN, Jungle Cat can reach up to height of 37 inches and weight maximum 17 kg.

Barking Deer

Barking Deer : Barking Deer or Indian muntjac ( Muntiacus muntjak ) is also known as red deer and known as kakar in local language , Barking deer is most numerous deer species and it has soft brownish grey color fur and short hairs .
Barking Deer is omnivorous animal, Barking Deer feeds on grass ,birds eggs ,fruits and sometimes Barking Deer
displays scavenging behavior , Why Indian Muntjac is known as Barking Deer because it makes barking sound when it see some danger like Leopards or Tiger, That sound is slight similar to dog Barking .

The male of barking deer has small antlers with length of 6 inches maximum , Barking Deer are extremely territorial and spray urnie as territory marking , Barking Deer ( Kakar ) fight with their tusks which are their canine teeth .

Goral

Goral : Mountain goat or Goral are found at Rajaji national park and found in large quantity. Goral could be seen on rocky surfaces in search of salt , Generally Goral prefers to stay on rocky surfaces with less vegetation , Average Goral has length up to 4-5 feet and weight approx 30-40 Kgs, Gorals have back facing horns and have dark Grey color, Underside , Throat & chest is light in color.

Gorals have thick fur coat, Females have four functional teats but pre orbital glands are not functional in Gorals

Indian Python

Indian Python ( Python molurus ) is found at Rajaji National Park , Average length of Indian Python is approx 10 Feet , They are also known as Indian Rocky Python & Black Tailed Python .

Indian Python has whitish color & black color patterns on whole body , prefer to reside near water source , swmaps, rocky foothills, woodlands etc.

Movement of Indian Python is very slow and known as good swimmers , can stay inside water for long time , generally prefer to stay near water bank, Indian Python is carnivores reptile and feed on small mammals , other reptiles & birds.

Indian Python

Python attacks on prey with open mouth , Jaws are not connected with each other , that’s why it can swallow bigger animal then its own body size , They make a coil round the prey and tighten the grip with each breath of prey with lung contraction , prey dies with smothering and Python swallows it from head side , After eating prey Python is unable to move and if forced hard body parts of eaten animal tear body of Python , If attacked after having meal Python generally disgorge eaten animal to run away and save life from attacker, Prey can not escape from grip as Python teeth are reverse and stop animal coming out.
